What Car Detailing Actually Costs in Aurora & the Fox Valley (2026 Prices)

Updated: Jul 26

Most detailing shops around the Fox Valley will not put a price on their website. You fill out a form, wait for a callback, and eventually get a number with no explanation of how anyone arrived at it. We would rather just show you.

Below is what we charge at our Sugar Grove studio, how that compares to the going rate around Aurora and Naperville, and — more usefully — what actually moves the number up or down. If you are shopping around, this should let you judge any quote you get, from us or from anyone else.

What detailing costs around here, on average

Independent research compiled from Yelp pricing data puts the Illinois statewide average for a car detailing service at $187.14 — roughly 17% above the national average of $160.16. Broken out by city, that same data shows:

  • Aurora — $140 on the low end, about $170 typical, $234 at the high end

  • Naperville — $120 low, $200 typical, $299 high

  • Chicago — $120 low, $180 typical, $325 high

Those figures average together every kind of work that gets called a detail, which is exactly why they are hard to act on. A $140 service and a $234 service in the same town are almost never the same job.

What we charge

In-studio, at 11 Fernilee Ct in Sugar Grove:

Mobile, at your home or office:

Add-ons, which you can attach to any service when you book: Engine Bay Detail $75, Headlight Restoration $85, Pet Hair Removal $115, Leather Reconditioning $120, Ozone Odor Treatment $185.

Why our full detail costs more than the average

Worth addressing head-on. Regional guides put a typical Chicagoland full detail somewhere around $225 to $495. Ours starts at $545. That gap is not a markup — it is a different job.

A $250 full detail is generally two to three hours of work: wash, vacuum, wipe down the interior, dress the tires. That is genuinely useful maintenance. Our Full Reconditioning is twelve hours. It includes carpet and seat extraction, steam cleaning vents and crevices, iron and tar decontamination, clay treatment, machine polishing to remove defects, and a protective sealant.

If your vehicle only needs a fast reset, book the The Factory Reset at $149 and keep the difference. We will tell you which one you actually need when we see the car.

The five things that actually move the price

  • Vehicle size. A three-row Suburban has roughly twice the interior surface area of a Civic, and every square foot gets touched by hand.

  • Condition. Embedded pet hair, cigarette smoke, spilled milk under a car seat, or several years of deferred cleaning are all time — and time is the entire cost structure of this trade.

  • Paint condition. For correction and coating work especially. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so heavily swirled paint needs more correction hours before anything gets applied.

  • Coating durability. One-year, three-year and five-year formulas differ in hardness, number of layers, prep required, and warranty.

  • Mobile versus in-studio. Mobile saves you the trip. The studio gives us controlled temperature, humidity and lighting, which genuinely matters for coating cure and for seeing paint defects properly.

When mobile makes sense, and when it does not

Mobile is the right call for maintenance work — regular washes, interior refreshes, anything on a recurring schedule. We come to you across Aurora, Naperville, Oswego, Yorkville, Batavia, Geneva, North Aurora and Montgomery.

Ceramic coating and paint correction we do in the studio, every time, without exception. Coatings need controlled cure conditions, and correcting paint properly requires consistent lighting to see what you are actually fixing. Anyone offering you a driveway ceramic coating in an Illinois February is selling something they cannot control.

A note on the cheap end

The $300 ceramic coating you will see advertised is, in most cases, a spray sealant applied over uncorrected paint. It will bead water impressively for a few months. It is not the same product and it will not last years.

That is not an argument for spending more. It is an argument for knowing what you are buying. If a coating quote looks low, ask two questions: how many hours of paint correction are included, and what is the actual product and its warranty. A shop that does this work properly will answer both without hesitating.

Common questions

Is detailing worth it before selling a car?

Usually it is the highest-return money you will spend on the vehicle. Reconditioning is most of what a dealership does to a trade-in before it goes on the lot, and there is a reason they bother.

How often should I get my car detailed?

For most Illinois drivers, a full reconditioning once or twice a year, with maintenance washes every two to four weeks in between. Road salt from December through March is the main reason that cadence matters more here than it would in a milder climate.

Do you charge more for trucks and SUVs?

Our prices start at the sedan rate and scale with size and condition. We confirm the exact number with you before any work begins — no surprises at pickup.

Do you serve my town?
